Purpose of Job
The Security Investigations and VIP Protection Officer reports to the Principal Safety and Security Officer and supports the implementation of security investigations, VIP protection, and protective security activities in support of the Mission’s mandate. The incumbent contributes to security coordination, incident reporting, protective operations, threat awareness, and liaison activities relating to the safety and security of Mission personnel, facilities, and designated officials. The Officer assists in supporting operational security, protective arrangements, and coordination activities within a complex and high-risk operational environment.
Main Functions
• Supports the implementation of security investigations, VIP protection, and protective security activities in support of the Mission’s mandate and operational priorities.
• Assists in supporting protective security arrangements for designated Mission officials, facilities, and personnel within the Mission area.
• Supports security coordination, incident monitoring, reporting, and follow-up activities relating to Mission security operations and protective security requirements.
• Assists in monitoring and reporting security incidents, threats, vulnerabilities, and operational security concerns affecting Mission personnel and activities.
• Supports liaison and coordination activities with Mission components, host authorities, security partners, and relevant stakeholders on security and protective matters.
• Contributes to awareness, preparedness, and operational security activities aimed at supporting the safety and security of Mission personnel, facilities, and operations.
Specific Responsibilities
• Supports security investigations, incident reporting, and follow-up activities relating to security incidents affecting Mission personnel, facilities, assets, and operations.
• Assists in supporting VIP protection and protective security arrangements for designated Mission officials and authorized visitors within the Mission area.
• Supports monitoring, assessment, and reporting of security threats, vulnerabilities, incidents, and operational security concerns affecting Mission activities.
• Assists in conducting security assessments, operational security reviews, and protective security checks relating to Mission facilities, movements, and activities.
• Supports liaison and coordination activities with Mission components, host authorities, security partners, and relevant stakeholders on security and protective matters.
• Assists in preparing security reports, incident summaries, briefing notes, threat updates, and other security-related documentation.
• Supports operational security coordination relating to official visits, movements, meetings, and other Mission activities requiring protective arrangements.
• Assists in monitoring compliance with Mission security procedures, protective measures, and operational security requirements.
• Supports awareness and preparedness activities relating to security, personal safety, and protective security measures for Mission personnel.
• Assists in maintaining security records, databases, incident logs, and information management tools relating to security investigations and VIP protection activities.
• Maintains effective liaison and communication with relevant stakeholders in support of Mission security and protective operations.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
• Master’s degree (Bac +5) in Security Management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security Studies, International Relations, Public Administration, Peace and Security Studies, Police Science, Military Science, or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in security operations, investigations, VIP protection, protective security, operational security coordination, or field mission security environments.
Or
• Bachelor’s degree (Bac +3) in Security Management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security Studies, International Relations, Public Administration, Peace and Security Studies, Police Science, Military Science, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in security operations, investigations, VIP protection, protective security, operational security coordination, or field mission security environments.
• Experience in AU, UN, or other international field missions, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments, is desirable.
• Experience in security investigations, VIP protection, protective security operations, or operational security coordination is desirable.
• Experience supporting coordination between civilian, police, and military Mission components and external security stakeholders is an added advantage.
• Experience in incident reporting, threat assessment, security coordination, and operational security monitoring is desirable.
• Experience in the use of security information management systems, incident databases, reporting tools, and standard Microsoft Office applications is desirable.

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The Appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of one (1) year, of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract may be renewed for a similar period subject to funding availability, satisfactory performance and agreed deliverables.

REMUNERATION:
Indicative basic salary of US$ 76,908.58 per annum P2 (Step 5) locally recruited staff of the Commission.
